What We're Reading, ...
A People of Hope: Archbishop Timothy Dolan in Conversation with John Allen Jr.
Book-length interview in which Dolan shares a perspective which is typically not part of the information an average person would know through today's media. This omission often leaves outsiders with a terribly flawed grasp of what's actually happening in the Church.
Tens of millions of Americans, and hundreds of millions more around the world, still turn to the Church for inspiration, for its sacramental life, for its experience of community and service. In every diocese in America you can find parishes that are flourishing.
In A People of Hope Dolan is seen at his best, capturing an upbeat, hopeful, affirming Catholicism that's the untold story about the Church today. Engaging page-turner.
The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton 50th Anniversary Edition
The Seven Storey Mountain is one of the most influential religious works of the twentieth century. It tells of the growing restlessness of a brilliant and passionate young man whose search for peace and faith leads him, at the age of twenty-six, to take vows in one of the most demanding Catholic orders--the Trappist monks. At the Abbey of Gethsemani, "the four walls of my new freedom," Thomas Merton struggles to withdraw from the world, but only after he has fully immersed himself in it. The Seven Storey Mountain has been a favorite of readers ranging from Graham Greene to Claire Booth Luce, Eldridge Cleaver, and Frank McCourt. And, in the half-century since its original publication, this timeless spiritual tome has been published in over twenty languages and has touched millions of lives.
Here and Now: Meditations on Living in the Present - Chiara Lubich
What is time? We measure it and we use it to measure an infinite number of things. We try to save it. We live in it. (Can we live without it?) Paul told us to redeem it but we have to admit that we do not perfectly understand what it means. In a series of inspiring meditations, Chiara Lubich shows us that living the present moment is our way to be connected with what is unlimited eternity. It puts us in touch, already here on earth, with heaven. In the light of her Christian faith and a lifetime of experience with her friends, Chiara Lubich gives us advice on how to use well the here and now.' If we focus on the present moment, we are planting a seed in eternity, to be enjoyed forever.
- Julian Stead, O.S.B. Author of Saint Benedict A Rule for Beginners
Chiara Lubich was born and lived in Italy. An internationally known religious leader and writer, she was a past recipient of the Templeton Prize for the Progress of Religion and the UNESCO Peace Prize. She has written over 30 books published in many languages. Her bestselling book is Christian Living Today Meditations with over 600,000 copies in print.
My Life With The Saints - James Martin S.J.
James Martin has led an entirely modern life: from a lukewarm Catholic childhood, to an education at the Wharton School of Business, to the executive fast track at General Electric, to ministry as a Jesuit priest, to a busy media career in Manhattan. But at every step he has been accompanied by some surprising friends-the saints of the Catholic Church. For many, these holy men and women remain just historical figures. For Martin, they are intimate companions. "They pray for me, offer me comfort, give me examples of discipleship, and help me along the way," he writes.
Meet some surprising friends of God in this warm and wonderful memoir
The Secret Diary of Elisabeth Lesuer
This inspiring book gives you a splendid example of how to live as a Christian in a secular environment that can be indifferent or hostile to your Faith. For Elisabeth Leseur had two great loves: God and her husband Felix, who was an atheist .
The story doesn't end there. When Felix found this diary, he discovered how Elisabeth's whole life bore witness to the truth of the God she loved.
In time, Felix was transformed by the diary and his memories of Elisabeth. He became a Christian and, later, a priest. Now she may even be declared a saint. Elisabeth's diary and spiritual writings (all included in this one volume) map out for you a path to marital harmony and greater love for God - especially if you love someone who stands outside the Faith. Let Elisabeth's two great loves, and her faith and perseverance, inspire you now.

Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church
User-friendly question and answer format, this 200-page volume offers a quick synopsis of the essential contents of the faith as promulgated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Like the 1992 Catechism, the Compendium has a four-part structure, and includes a section on common prayers and Catholic doctrinal formulas.
Because of the question-and-answer format, catechetical leaders-parents, pastors, teachers, principals, and catechists-have a unique opportunity to dialogue with the faithful, and reinvigorate the Church's ongoing mission of evangelization and catechesis.
An essential tool for youth and young adults, the Compendium is the perfect companion to a youth or young adult's Bible, spiritual reading, or textbook. Catechetical leaders in high schools, colleges, and parishes will appreciate its versatility-as a reference book, discussion starter, or core resource for RCIA programs. Fourteen images taken from masterpieces of Christian art set a tone for each part or section.
All Is Grace: A Biography of Dorothy Day - Jim Forest
Dorothy Day (1897-1980), founder of the Catholic Worker movement, and one of the most prophetic voices in the American Catholic church, has recently been proposed as a candidate for canonization. In this lavishly illustrated biography, Jim Forest provides a compelling portrait of her heroic efforts to live out the radical message of the gospel for our time.
A journalist and social reformer in her youth, Day surprised her friends with the decision in 1927 to enter the Catholic church. Her conversion, prompted by the birth out of wedlock of her daughter Tamar, left her searching for some way to reconcile her faith with her commitment to the poor and social justice. The answer came with her decision to launch The Catholic Worker, both a newspaper and a movement. Enunciating a radical social vision rooted in the gospel, Day and those who joined her devoted themselves to the Works of Mercy while struggling to create a new society where it is easier to be good. An ardent pacifist, Day was frequently arrested for her protests in the cause of peace.
Drawing on her recently published diaries and letters, Forest chronicles her extraordinary journey, with special stress on the unique spiritual vision that underlay her dramatic witness.
A Century of Catholic Converts - Lorene Hanley Duquin
These are the conversions that made history. For most of the last hundred years, know-it-alls have been predicting the end of organized religion. Meanwhile, a steady stream of conversions has brought the best minds of recent history into the Church. Why did they convert? Why do countless thousands still convert every year? Lorene Duquin was away from the Church for many years, but she set out to answer that question when she was writing the biography of one of those converts. The answers she found led her back into the Church herself. In these fascinating and often inspiring stories you'll find how the historical context influences conversions, how other people help the convert along the way, and how Catholicism has inspired so many great minds. Then you'll see how each of these converts has, in turn, brought something uniquely valuable into the Church.
Lorene Hanley Duquin is a Catholic author and lecturer, who has worked in parishes and on a diocesan level. She is currently the coordinator of Come and See, a broad-based evangelization outreach in the Diocese of Buffalo and a member of the Diocesan Evangelization Advisory Board. She has been active in ministry to alienated Catholics since 1992.
She has conducted lectures and workshops on a variety of evangelization and stewardship topics in parishes and at national and diocesan conferences in the United States and Canada. Her articles have appeared in a variety of secular and Catholic publications.

Marriage Works In Christ

Fr. James Dean and Greg and Julie Alexander with Matt and Mindy Dalton
As Catholics, we do not accept contraception as a part of marriage. Coming to understanding and implementing the Theology of the Body can transform not only your life but will help you experience the beauty of God’s awesome plan for the sacrament of marriage.
Marriage Works In Christ
Fr. James Dean and Greg and Julie Alexander with Scott and Kelly Pence.
Family of origin, the family from which we came has a great deal to do with who we become as adults. The first thing that God says about marriage is husbands leave your mother and your father and cling to your wife and the two of you shall become one. A lot of people have a hard time leaving their parents and do not quite understand what this means or how to do this. Knowing the proper order for our lives; God first, spouse second and children third everything else after that, helps to provide an order that brings peace.
